This week I’m advising students to be sure that they take some time for themselves. Even if it’s only twenty minutes in a bubble bath, going out for lunch, or taking the time to catch their favorite TV show. Excellent life balance is critical.

What’s motivating you to get a degree? Better career? Better pay? To make your children proud? Self-improvement? No matter what your long-term motivation in obtaining a degree is, it’s possible that this light at the end of the tunnel may not be enough to sustain you for two years. Staying motivated every day in an online course is not the easiest task. Without a teacher physically tapping you on the shoulder reminding you to get your work done, it’s pretty easy to fall behind. Self-motivation is key to stay on track and on your way to a brighter future.

This week I’m talking about life balance with my students! Life is a juggling act that involves catering to different responsibilities and needs every day. Balancing these needs can be a more overwhelming task than trying to keep up with Kardashian spin-off shows. When work gets busy – homework may be forgotten. When a family member needs help – secondary discussion posts may be late. Most, if not all, of us could use an improvement in our life balance.

Here are some ways to increase your motivation to study.
